Compounding Pharmacy FAQ

How can Owens Healthcare help to reduce my pharmacy cost under the current PPS plan?

In one word, partnership. Owens Healthcare has developed a shared risk/benefit plan that creates incentive for both the facility and pharmacy to reduce pharmacy cost. Through aggressive formulary management, generic substitution, and limiting medication quantities, Owens Healthcare significantly reduces excessive cost. A monthly per diem rate allows you to estimate your pharmacy cost. In addition, the risk/benefit plan takes the sting out of those months when your pharmacy cost is unexpectedly high.

How can your consultants help me prepare for Survey?

Consultant Pharmacists are an integral part of Owens Healthcare services. All of our consultants are Doctors of Pharmacy with extensive clinical training in geriatric pharmacology. In service training, survey preparation, and immediate availability of our consultants is included in the modest fee. We offer computerized drug regimen review as well. Keeping the consultants up-to-date in the latest clinical and regulatory issues is one of our top priorities.

What types of packaging and delivery systems does Owens Healthcare offer?

Owens Healthcare offers packaging tailored to your facility needs. Blister pack (bubble pack) remains one of our most popular options. We offer this in several systems. The straight pack is preferred by Skilled Nursing facilities where storage space is a concern. The calendar and dose packaging system is preferred by Assisted Living facilities where non-licensed staff prepare medications and quick reconciliation of medications is necessary. We also offer the OPUS system along with vials and cubes.

Owens Healthcare offers both cycle fill and non-cycle fill delivery systems. Cycle fill is the preferred system. In this system, routine medications are automatically sent to the facility monthly, greatly reducing your daily orders. If cycle fill does not fit your needs, a non-cycle fill system is available. This system allows you to order drugs on an as needed basis with a convenient peel off label. Owens Healthcare also provides medication carts and fax machines free of charge as part of our delivery system.

How does Owens Healthcare pricing compare to that of other pharmacies for the Assisted Living resident who has no insurance coverage?

Owens Healthcare charges Medi-Cal rates to the private pay customer. In the event that our usual and customary fee is lower than the Medi-Cal rate, we honor the lower rate. Our price comparisons have shown that we are very competitive with other pharmacies, including the deep discount pharmacies. In addition, we offer excellent customer service and several packaging options to fill the individual needs of our customers
