To celebrate American Pharmacists Month, Owens Pharmacies are encouraging our pharmacists to spread the word about their work throughout the month of October!
“American Pharmacists Month is a time to recognize pharmacists for the vital contributions they make to health care in the United States through improved medication use and advanced patient care,” the American Pharmacists Association (APHA) states on its website. “(It) is a time to educate your patients, motivate your staff, and engage and inspire your community to ‘Know Your Pharmacists, Know Your Medicine.’”
Here at Owens we are proud to say that we love our pharmacists and are so grateful for the work they do day in and day out each day! We have a lot of locations throughout Northern California, and a lot of amazing pharmacists who run each one of our retail locations. To get in the spirit of American Pharmacist Month, we decided to do a spotlight on one of our pharmacists so you can see just how lucky we are to have them!
This friendly Pharmacist has been a part of the Owens Pharmacy team for a little over a year now! Johannes, originally born and raised in Boksburg South Africa, moved to the United States in 2005 with his wife Elize, also a South African born Pharmacist, and their two sons. Johannes has been a pharmacist for 24 years and is known throughout this company for providing outstanding care and commitment to each one of his customers!
Johannes’ hobbies are cooking and MORE cooking! When he’s not in the kitchen or at the barbecue cooking up delicious food, he’s also collecting model trains and playing the piano in his spare time!
Another fun fact about Johannes and Elize is they own some property and have quite a few furry friends that also call it home! This fun pharmacist family has four pigmy goats: Rick, Daryl, Gupta, and Belle. They also have six furry and friendly alpaca’s named Malcolm, Nelson, Juice, Lenny, Zuni, and Juno.
Fun fact about Alpaca’s: Alpaca fiber is very similar to sheep’s wool, but it is warmer and not itchy! You see, alpaca fiber lacks lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic and also allows it to be processed and cleaned without the need for high temperatures or chemicals!
